Products From China

At Down to Earth Distributors, Inc., we care about where our products come from. When it comes to bringing you the best value in quality handmade woodenware and handicrafts, we go to the village of Fujian Province in China.

Rural people of Fujian have been making handmade woodenware for over 2000 years. Families specialize in a particular products like spoons or bowls. In order to acquire enough goods for export, our representatives buy from many families and villages. Making fine products is what many craftsmen do for a living. For many other families, it is a source of much needed extra income.

More than half of the products we import from China are made on primitive machines that are owned by small working shops in their village.

In fact, the Province of Fujian is known as one of the most liberal areas in all of China, and the government has actually taken a hands-off attitude to most small businesses and is becoming less and less involved.

The natural materials used in making our products, such as bamboo and peachtree, is abundant and are grown for the sole purpose of making fine utensils.

Fujian protects its rainforests by law from logging or harvesting and our products are not made from materials from the rainforest.

Bamboo is very plentiful in Fujian. It is a member of the grass family and after it is cut it resprouts and grows back very quickly. The Chinese Panda Bear lives over 1000 miles away from Fujian in the far northwest region of China. Our bamboo products are non-destructive to both the land and the Panda Bears.

We support this effort at grass roots entreprenuership. It is our belief that it is in everyones interest to support the handicrafts of China and other third world countries such as Guatemala, Nepal, and Malaysia.
